For several weeks, I have written posts speculating how loving God really is. In the last post on the subject, two weeks ago, I explored the Mormon belief that God was once a man who had to pass his own probation period with his God in order for him to become a God. I suggested that when he was a mortal, God might have been bullied on account of some of his actions in the Bible. One responder rebuked me for judging God to which I explained I wasn’t judging God but merely speculating what he might have been like if he was a man.
According to Mormon theology, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who have lived devoutly according to the church’s teachings will ascend to Godhood. Like our God, they will reign in heaven as a God with the power to create their own worlds. That’s the big issue here and why I don’t really want to go back to the LDS church. See, I don’t want to be a God because with everything I’ve written about God over the past few weeks, I know I couldn’t do better. Knowing me, I would probably intervene somewhere with good intentions but the world I created ends up destroying itself. So, no, I don’t want to be a God.
Since I have more writing space, I will bring up the next occurrence which further proves my insanity. On my Twitter feed, which is now called “X,” I read a post about how since Australia tightened up their gun laws after a mass shooting in 1995, there hasn’t been any. I responded that most Americans will ignore that fact and tell you to go live in Australia. Some right wing gun nut applauded me thinking that I was on the same page as he because he said those opposed to guns can “eat shit and move to Australia.” Should I tell him that wasn’t what I meant? Another responder did get what I was saying because he sent me a meme insinuating I was stupid.
No, I am pointing out a fact from previous experiences. I used to work with a guy where if you said anything nice about another country, he would say go live there, sometimes with an expletive included. Then there was the time I pointed out that Sweden hadn’t fought a war in over two centuries and speculated if they were doing something right. Someone told me to go live in Sweden. By the way, while it’s mainly Americans who have this attitude, they don’t have the monopoly on it. I’ve heard a number of British people say the same and I know from someone who lived in New Zealand for a bit, that some New Zealanders have said it. It just goes to show that some people think they love their country so much that they are immediately rejecting of ideas from other countries, even if they are good ones.
